"Chang"
Our Siamese Cat
Chang was a male Siamese cat that showed up at our house one day when I was a kid.  He had looked like he had been in a fight.  We had never had a cat before.  We saw his anatomy and figured he was a male but then I remember that we saw he had nipples and as young kids, we were very confused!  My older sister Vicki called her friend over to the house who owned cats and as the Chang walked away, she said "It's a boy!".  He was a big tough cat and we fed and watered him and he soon was looking pretty good.   There was no missing cat reports and so we kept him.  He was a hunter! He would stalk birds, rabbits, mice, all kinds of things.  I remember the neighbor across the street was a bird lover and didn't like him at all.  He would often raid the bunny nests and eat the baby bunnies.  That was good for our garden!   Many years later we aquired my sister's boyfriend's Siamese kitty (see Kitty) and they were a great pair.
Chang lived a long time.  We said he had more than nine lives.  It was not as common to neuter male cats as it is today and I think now how many kittens would be able to call him Dad! He would go outside nightly and often stay out all night and sometimes even days.  He always came back.  Sometimes he would have some scratches and he would end up on antibiotics.
The last time he came home he had a broken leg.  The vet said he may have gotten hit by  a car or maybe had been hit by a bat by teens out on the street.  The vet offered surgery as an option but with the costs, associated risks, and his age my Dad said no and asked the Dr. to put him to sleep.  I was there with my sister Vicki and I remember crying over him as I said my goodbye.  I cried all the way home, it was the best decision under the circumstances but I loved him and so it was hard.
